THE CRAFTSWOMAN'S CLUB

Established 2012

The Craftswoman's Club was established in 2012 as an alternative to the nineteenth century Craftsman's Club which convened once a month in the city of Birmingham to discuss the arts but excluded female members.

The project launched with an exhibition of silk screen prints of the original entry rules to the club as documented in the 1904 minute book held within the The Art and Design archives at Birmingham School of Art. Including the infamous 'No women shall be permitted'.

The club continues to meet delivering a series of 'traditional' feminine crafts in the form of workshops, to date subjects have included: Floristry, Embroidery, French Knitting, Japanese Bookbinding and many more.
