PUTTIN' TACKS ON YOUR CHAIR
Metal Thumb Tacks, Polystyrene, 2015
'Puttin' Tacks on Your Chair' takes its title from Guy Jarrett’s first book published in 1933. A talented prop and illusion maker for magicians, Jarrett weathered the Great Depression by making painstakingly handcrafted brass nameplates and large-scale props for entertainment shows.
The work presents an unidentifiable 'prop' produced through the labor-intensive process of individually inserting 31,600 thumbtacks into polystyrene.
