MAIDEN VOICED
Live performance, 2017
Maiden Voiced presents a live performance and short film inspired by Maya Deren’s seminal 1944 feature AT LAND and the history of the sea siren as a female identity both silenced and powerful. In front of a backdrop of found footage of stormy oceans and a short script from Homer’s the Odyssey, audiences are invited to witness the writhing, desiring body of the siren through a lyrical dance performance. Koshi wind chimes, Waterphone and Himalayan singing bowls offer an alternative transmission of voice that is both meditative and spellbinding.
Performed by Hannah Williams as part of VIVID Live 'SYN' curated by Kate Spence.
